Banknotes of France
France has produced some of the most beautiful banknotes of any country. The combination of allegory and symbolism, design, color and printing make each of these notes a work of art. These are especially notable in the Banque de France issues of the mid twentieth century.
Early artists such as Georges Duval, followed later by Clément Serveau and more recently Robert Poughéon and Pierrette Lambert received their training at l'École des Arts Décoratifs and l'École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. They designed these beautiful banknotes for France and other countries under contract to Banque de France.
