Gustave Fraipont

Gustave Fraipont, born in Brussels in 1849 and died in Paris in 1923 is a painter, sculptor, illustrator and poster designer. Belgian by birth, he became naturalized French. Art teacher at the House of Education of the Legion of Honor, he has authored many books on drawing technique. In 1885, it provides illustrations for the series The Coast of France from the publisher Victor Palme. He also illustrated books on Paris and the French regions. It publishes books for children such as the Miller and Yves Andre the sailor. It also illustrates the Lettres de mon moulin, Perrault's Tales, Robinson Crusoe, Câline Zenaide Fleuriot. He produced numerous posters for railway companies, including Railways West and North, as well as official documents and paper tickets. It contributes to numerous newspapers and magazines such as Paris and French Mail shown. In 1905 he was appointed painter to the navy. During World War I, he produced several compositions for the magazine L'Illustration, including the monuments destroyed by war: Halles of Ypres, Rheims cathedral and town hall of Arras. Gustave Fraipont is the father of Georges Fraipont (1873-1912), also an illustrator.
