Frédéric Florian
Frédéric Florian (1858-1926) was a Swiss draughtsman and wood engraver who worked mainly in Paris.
Born on February 20, 1858 in Chez-le-Bart, commune of Gorgier, Frédéric Florian was the older brother of Ernest Florian (1863-1914), also an engraver.
The Florian brothers produced numerous woodcuts to illustrate periodicals and books. Frédéric sometimes signed his name “Rognon”. Among other roles, he played Daniel Vierge. He was a regular contributor to the front pages of Revue illustrée and Harper's Magazine.
After 1872, Auguste Lepère formed an engraving association with Tony Beltrand, Eugène Dété and Frédéric Florian, signing their joint productions “BDF”.
