Georges Duval
Georges Charles Victor Duval also known as Georges Duval (1851-1916) was a French architect, designer among others of banknotes, watercolourist and illustrator.
Born in Paris on October 6, 1851, Georges Charles Victor Duval was admitted to the Beaux-Arts in Paris in November 1870, in the class of architect Louis-Jules André, school where he was enrolled until 1874. He practiced drawing and watercolor, among others under the patronage of Camille Chazal. On December 21, 1877, at the town hall of the 6th arrondissement of Paris, he married Juliette Marguerite Descours, daughter-in-law of Gustave Macé, police commissioner and head of the Sureté and who was a playwright and poet under the name of Juliette de Wils (a price of the French academy bore his name).
Undoubtedly through Chazal, he worked, first alongside Jean-Baptiste Daniel-Dupuis, on behalf of the Banque de France and produced numerous watercolors intended for national and foreign currency vignettes, from the years 1880. He also executed the graphic compositions of the stamps of workers' and peasant pensions, bonds for the State railways, etc. Appointed to the courts of Paris thanks to the support of Macé, he also records crime scenes for criminal expertise.
He exhibited drawings and architectural views in the form of watercolors at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1896, inspired by the French provinces. He became a member of the Society of French Artists in 1907.
Appointed an academy officer in 1898, then a public education officer in 1900, Duval was also a member of the Central Society of Architects (1890-1912), and decorated with the Order of the Star of Romania.
Duval died on February 23, 1916 in Lyon, while going to his second home located in Saint-Raphaël.
