Paul Bornet

Paul Bornet, born in Ranchot on September 11, 1878 and died in Paris on August 14, 1949, was a French engraver and painter.

Paul Bornet is best known as a master engraver, notably on wood.

A Croix de Guerre veteran, after 1918 he taught at the Institut d'esthétique contemporaine, training artists such as Jean Lébédeff, Gabriel Zendel and the American Grace Albee. He also worked for the Banque de France, engraving numerous banknotes for countries such as Syria and Greece. He also collaborated with Gallimard Editions, among others for the collection Les peintres français nouveaux.

He exhibited at the Salon des artistes français from 1897 to 1905, then at the Société nationale des beaux-arts (1919), the Salon d'automne, the Salon des indépendants, as well as in Geneva, Marseille, Spain and numerous Paris galleries. Director of the Institut d'esthétique contemporaine founded by Marcel-Lenoir, he was a member of the jury at the 1925 Decorative Arts Exhibition, where he received an honorary diploma and the gold medal.
