Robert Armanelli
Born in 1912 in Saint-Paul aux Bois (Aisne), his father Georges Armanelli and his mother Marie Lefort were both laborers from the community. Recruited into the 153rd Infantry Regiment in 1933, he was named to the Order of the Divisional Infantry in 1940. His training course as an engraver is not known, we find it in 1949, the date to which he is devoted best worker of France in the category Wood engraving. His talent allows him to participate in many works very different: advertising, written press, literary works, lithographs, philately and of course, banknotes.
A friend of Fontanarosa, he also works with the big names of post-war banknote designers, Poughéon, Serveau, Marliat, Piel. His workshop is located on rue de Tolbiac, the Banque de France entrusted him with the engraving of many banknotes. He died on April 12, 1969, a few weeks after the release of a note on which he had worked a lot: the 500 Francs Pascal.
